It takes a lot of work and money to upkeep and host this website. Most of the website costs come out of my own pocket. I don’t really like advertising and I’ve been trying to avoid doing that but still need to pay the bills on these things regardless.
If you have found the information here useful or entertaining please consider supporting this site by buying products or booking reservations for things you would already be doing so. It would really help a lot and it won’t cost you a dime extra!
Travel Bookings
Hotels
Booking.com – I book mostly of bookings through this site myself. I think it’s great and if you register with them you also sometimes get “genius” pricing. I highly recommend them and use them myself as well.
Agoda.com – I find them really great for bookings especially in parts of Asia and Europe. I use these for bookings I don’t normally find on Booking.com
Hotels Combined – This in itself is not a booking agent but they aggregate bookings from several of the most popular booking sites such as Booking.com and Hotels.com. Definitely worth checking to see if you have the best deal or if another site might have a better deal.
Expedia: One thing I love about Expedia is their deals for things such as city breaks including the Eurostar. I’ve found deals here that were cheaper through Expedia for train/hotel than it was just for train alone through the Eurostar website. Some good cruise deals too if that is your thing.
Airfare
SkyScanner – I love this search engine, particularly for the ability to search for tickets to “everywhere”. I’ve found myself on business travel many a time and just let it show me where the best options were and then just go.
Other
STA Travel – Great for Student Travel and also my go-to place for buying Japan Rail Passes
Rail Europe – A great website for booking all sorts of rail passes in Europe, including Eurostar.
Tour Operators
Now I don’t always take tour groups as I tend to find myself doing a lot of solo travel (much of my travel happens around other travel needs such as business trips). But when I do I tend to be very selective in terms of what operators I will use. If you are going to go with a group, don’t just pick the cheapest option, as often they will cut corners or take you way too often to places to sell you things which tend to cut a lot into your actual time visiting places.
G-Adventures: One of the best and also with a lot of great options in terms of cost and comfort. I like that they often have options where you can take local travel and get closer to the action. You can even save up to 25% using the link for some of their last minute options.
Intrepid: Another wonderful travel operator with years of experience and amazing trip options. A bit pricier but as with many things you get what you pay for.
Blogging Resources
BigScoots: My current host. My prior host was starting to degrade and I was looking for somewhere fast and new. Even with my technical background, it’s nice to not have to worry about the backend stuff. However, unfortunately sometimes I like to worry about it.
DreamHost: If the above is not your cup of tea, I would also recommend DreamHost. I haven’t used it but I’ve worked on sites hosted there for friends and it is a good option as well.
WPEngine. If you are going to go with WordPress and if you have huge demands they have some great options for hosting your site. The price is definitely higher too so make sure you are at least making money from your blog, website.
Rackspace: For those with high demanding sites. A huge cloud type hosting services you will easily be able to host the largest of sites, some of the world’s largest websites run with them. However be prepared to pay higher costs. You do in the end get what you pay for however.
Hover.com: A great place for registering domain names. Reasonably priced and includes free domain privacy!
