Me: My bag was lost by the airline and they will be coming later today to drop off my bag.
Lady at Hostel: You have a room; you can leave the bags in the room.
Me: Yes I know I have a room. But there is someone coming from the airport and he is bringing my bag. It was lost on the way here.
Lady: You have a room; you can leave your bag in the room.
Me: No I think you misunderstand. I don’t have my bag here, it is coming soon, they will drop it off for me.
Lady (now a bit upset): What do you WANT from me? You have a room. You can keep your bag in the room.
My friend with me tries to explain as well, some miming happens, a few pointing and then another man walks up and says in great English. Oh what is the issue? We explain that my bag was lost by the airline and they will be dropping it off here later. We just want to make sure they don’t turn the bag away. He says ok in acknowledgement and they chat a bit back and forth.
Him: Well she says that you have a room, and you can leave it there.
Ugh..
Me: No the bag is not with me. It’s coming soon. It’s coming from the airport.
Him: Oh you are going to the airport?
Me: No. the bag is coming here.
Him: Where is your bag?
Me: Frankfurt
Both: Ahhhh!
Success! It seemed they both understood or at least I hope they understood, they seemed to smile and wave us off. On travel even the small victories seem like giant successes… Here’s to hoping it eventually gets here!
