New York City and Romance go hand in hand. But New York can be a very expensive city. But there is so much to do even for free. We scoured the city to find some of the best most romantic places in NYC that won’t break your budget.
The Highline
While a part situated on an old train track doesn’t sound romantic, the High line is one of the most romantic spots to wander with someone you love. The park meanders through trees and flowers over a mile of old track line. There are even perfect spots to seclude yourself away to chat or sit privately with someone you are with. Also for those who love the stars, you can go stargazing Tuesday nights (April – October). There are also a lot of cafes near the park to stop off for a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
Location: Gansevoort & Washington to 34th & 12th Ave
Hours: 7am – 7pm
Staten Island Ferry
The Staten Island ferry is popular both among locals and tourists for some of the best views of the city skyline and the statue of Liberty. And its free. If the weather is good, standing up and admiring the Manhattan skyline or the movement of the waves is a perfect free activity to spend with someone. And its easy enough to get back again after you head over to Staten Island (unless you decide to stay and dine on the Island).
Central Park
There really is no place like Central Park. If you are in the southern parts of the park it can be very crowded and (not so romantic) but take a few steps further and you can easily get away from the crowds. There are so many perfect spots in the city from Strawberry Fields, Bow Bridge, The Reservoir, and more. If it’s the summer you can also grab tickets to the Free Shakespeare in the Park. Central Park is perfect for lost wandering through trails or just to sit and lie on the grass contemplating moments. Also a great place to bring a picnic basket and have a perfect lunch under a tree.
The Cloisters
Technically “not” free, but if you are a local or have an ID you can pay as you wish to enter into any of the MET properties. The cloisters which are the covered walkways with the open courtyards are a beautiful spot to just wander or while away the time with someone. It is certainly one of my favorite places to escape. Even in crowded days it can sometimes feel you can find some peace among the pillars.
Brooklyn Bridge & Park
One of my favorite activities is the Brooklyn Bridge. Besides its historic nature it is a great place to go for a stroll and admire the city from. After crossing the bridge taking some time in Brooklyn Bridge Park is beautiful too along the water. You can sit and people watch, take a carousel ride on Jane’s Carousel or just lie on the grass and look at the Manhattan skyline beyond.

Do you have a perfect date spot in NYC that won’t break the bank. Have you been to all these spots yourself? Romance doesn’t have to be expensive and spending time with loved ones is as anything about the people you are with than the places you go. Let us know what your opinions are too!
